Chronically homeless Iowans are more than just a number. And by following the data, two eastern Iowa research initiatives have uncovered the stories of chronically homeless individuals who repeatedly cycle through our criminal justice, health care and homeless services systems. These stories will be shared during this session and along with them – the costs associated with the services they frequent and data-driven evidence that this cycle is not in the best interest of these individuals or the communities who are paying for the services. Providing a permanent home for this vulnerable and at-risk population and the support needed to retain it has proven time and time again by communities across the nation to be more cost effective. Learn about the steps being taken in Iowa to end chronic homelessness.
