Housing is health care. And the extension of both, together, is necessary for ending homelessness.
Research shows that while housing is the first rung on the ladder for our most vulnerable individuals, a person’s access to physical and mental healthcare is intrinsically linked with successful housing and health outcomes, self-sustainability and upward economic mobility.
This session will examine the intersection of housing and healthcare through examples of two very different and successful housing and healthcare partnerships in Iowa. Attendees will learn about the building blocks of the different types of programs, their successes and challenges, populations served, the roles of housing and health experts in both partnerships, the results achieved… and replicable tips for starting a housing and healthcare partnership to both improve health and reduce costs.
