Research consistently shows that individuals experiencing homelessness or who are at-risk of homelessness want to work but are faced with a variety of barriers. These obstacles can include the experience of homelessness itself, lack of experience or training, physical or mental health barriers and challenges related to re-entry from incarceration or hospitalization. Overcoming employment barriers requires innovation and collaborations between employers, providers and the individuals seeking employment to ensure that the needs of all parties are being met. This session will highlight successful employment models as well as innovative programs that are helping Iowans overcome the barriers to employment by providing access to opportunity, training and support.
