Empower with Peer Support
September 6, 2018, 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM
Lisa D’Aunno, Iowa Peer Support & Family Peer Support Training Project
Jeremy Orcutt, Anawim Housing
This session will highlight the importance of peer support for individuals experiencing homelessness. Peers that have experienced homelessness
themselves offer unique perspectives in supporting those currently experiencing it. Peer support has significant impacts on quality of life, drug and alcohol use and social support.
Attendees will hear from a peer support trainer for first-hand information on how this kind of direct support in addition to case management is vital to helping individuals overcome barriers in their life. Attendees leave this session with a clear understanding of how to establish a peer support program and the successes and challenges to be prepared for when establishing a program.
